Chronic Disease Facts
Chronic diseases are among the leading causes of death in Maryland and Charles County. Heart disease, cancer, and stroke were the top three leading causes of death in the state in 2024. In Charles County, over 56% of deaths were linked to chronic disease in 2024. In the county, cancer and heart disease were the leading causes of death, each totaling 21% of all reported deaths.
Fortunately, the majority of chronic disease cases can be prevented. An estimated 80% of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes can be prevented through a healthy diet, physical activity, and avoiding tobacco.
Living Well
This is a free six-week workshop designed for people with chronic conditions and/or caregivers. Each session builds upon the last to help you set goals, make action plans, and improve your life. It is a motivational experience.
