Services for Infants & Toddlers

Services are provided to infants and toddlers, birth through two years old who may be delayed in development or have disabilities. This program is a family centered approach to assist families with an eligible infant or toddler obtain services for themselves and their child. Services vary with the needs of the child and their family. Types of services that may be provided include: service coordination, audiology, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech language pathology, and special instruction.

Who is eligible?

Children birth through age two are deemed eligible for early intervention services as determined by a multidisciplinary team and documented by a qualified examiner because:

  • They are functioning at least 25% below his/her chronological age in one or more of the following developmental areas: cognitive development, physical development (includes vision and hearing), communication development, social or emotional development, adaptive development.
  • They have a diagnosed physical or mental condition that has a high probability of resulting in developmental delay.
  • They manifest atypical development or behavior that is demonstrated by abnormal quality of performance and function in one or more of the developmental areas and is likely to result in subsequent delay.

Milestones of Normal Development

  • 1 month Turns to sound, follows objects
  • 2 months Says coo, lifts head when on stomach
  • 3 months Laughs/smiles, begins to know Mom
  • 4 months May reach for toys, puts toys in mouth
  • 5-6 months Begins teething, babbling, rolls over,stomach to back, back to stomach
  • 7-8 months Sits without support, begins to sip from cup, creeps
  • 9-10 months Pulls self to standing, waves bye-bye, says ma ma, ba ba, dad a
  • 11-12 months Stands alone, comes when called, Walks with help
  • 12-15 months Walks alone, drinks from cup alone, Says four/five words, begins feeding self
  • 18 months Turns pages in book, plays with toys, scribbles spontaneously, easily frustrated
  • 2 years Plays with peers, throws/kicks ball, helps dress/undress self, follows simple directions, jumps in place, uses 2-5 word sentences
